Maintenance Trades I is not permanently assigned to a specific trade area. The main function of a temporary/hourly employee in this classification is to perform unskilled or semi-skilled labor for the Department of Maintenance as a whole. The employee will be utilized in the assistance of seasonal activities such as grounds care, moving and deliveries, minor carpentry, snow removal, air filter changes, roof maintenance, etc.
Replaces filters for mechanical air handling equipment;
Provides semi-skilled labor in support of multiple trades, such as painting, grounds, roofing, mechanical and vehicle transportation;
Lift and carry heavy objects;
Work at elevated heights;
Cares for lawns, shrubbery, trees and flowerbeds using hand and power tools and equipment;
Cleans, weeds and rakes playgrounds;
Assists in re-mulching and general grounds clean up activities;
Be able to follow verbal and written instructions;
Changes air filters;
Makes general deliveries in schools and facilities; and
Prepares interior and exterior walls and other building structural surfaces by washing, brushing, sanding and scraping. Applies paint, varnishes, stains and waterproofing agents to these surfaces.
Provides basic ground maintenance for school facilities; including turf cutting, aeration, seeding and trimming. May use motorized, heavy-duty equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, edger, chainsaw and tiller. Spreads top soil and sand. Cleans, weeds and rakes flowerbeds and playgrounds;
Makes minor repairs and alterations on floors, windows, furniture and other wooden structures;
Oils and lubricates mechanical and grounds equipment and machines;
Cleans gutters and roof top drains. Assists in the stripping of roof materials and applications of new membranes or materials;
Operates automobiles, trucks, forklift and grounds tractors; and
Assists mechanical trades in care and cleaning of boilers and other mechanical equipment.
High School Diploma or GED;
Some knowledge of basic grounds care and maintenance repairs;
Basic experience in plumbing, concrete work, roofing, painting, small engine mechanics, or other related skills;
Fundamental knowledge of basic hand and power tools;
Valid driver's license, containing less than four points;
Ability to operate grounds tractors and mowers;
Accuracy in the use of tools and equipment;
Ability to routinely lift or move objects of 75 pounds or more, frequently during the day; and
Ability to climb ladders.
Part-time/hourly position
The salary for this position will be based on an hourly rate of $11.00.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
